Privacy Policy

Mwakete is a marketplace run by MainKT Enterprise. It connects shoppers in Kiribati with local sellers. This page explains, in plain words, what we hold about you, who can see it, and how to have it removed.
You can browse without an account
You do not need to sign in to browse. To place an order, send a booking request, message a seller or leave a review, you sign in to a free customer account. When you order we also need your name and phone number, because the seller has to be able to reach you to arrange delivery and payment. Your account keeps your orders and chats in one place.
What we collect
If you create an account
- Your name, email address and phone number
- Whether your email has been confirmed, and when the account was made
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account's user ID, and the fact that Google was used. We receive your name, email address and whether Google has verified that address. We never receive your Google password, and we have no access to your Gmail, Drive, contacts or anything else in your Google account.
- If you set a password: only a scrambled form of it (a one-way "hash"). Nobody at Mwakete can see or recover your password - if you forget it, you set a new one from a code we email you.
- If you sign in with Facebook: your Facebook user ID for Mwakete, your name, and your email address if you allow Facebook to share it. We confirm that email ourselves with a code before it is used. We never receive your Facebook password, and we do not see your posts, friends or messages. You can remove Mwakete from Facebook (and ask us to delete what we hold) - see Deleting your data.
- A short security log of sign-ins, password resets and linked sign-in methods (what happened and when - never a password or code).
When you place an order or booking
- Your name and phone number
- Your email address, if you give one
- Your island and village, and the delivery method you chose
- What you ordered, the prices, and any note you added
- For bookings, the dates you asked for
When you message a seller
The messages themselves, the name you gave in the chat, and any photo you send in it.
If you drive for Mwakete
- Your name, phone number, email address, Facebook Messenger link, vehicle and island, and the status of your application
- Your ID: which one you gave (KPF ID, National ID, passport or driver’s licence), its number, and a photo of it; the photo of your face taken during the face check, and whether it matched your ID; and your signed Driver Agreement (your typed name and drawn signature, or photos of the signed pages). The face check runs on your own phone - your face is not sent to any other company. These files are stored privately, only Mwakete administrators can see them, and they are deleted 90 days after your application is refused or you stop driving. The ID type and number are kept as a record.
- The jobs you take, the photo of the delivered goods and the name of the person who received them, and the messages you exchange with the seller about a job
- If you choose to share your live location on a job: only your latest position, which is deleted when the job ends
- If Mwakete pays drivers through the site: where to send your money (the bank details you type in), your balance and a history of what was credited and paid to you
When you leave a review
Your rating, your comment, and the name on your account. Reviews are public — your name is shown next to them on the product page, so use the name you are comfortable being seen.
When you sign in by email code
Your email address and a six-digit code, held only until the code is used or expires.
What stays on your phone and is never sent to us
Some things are stored only in your own browser. We cannot read them, and clearing your browser data deletes them:
- What is in your cart, for each store
- The name, phone, email, island and village you last typed at checkout, so you do not have to type them again
- Your sign-in token, if you are signed in
- Which stores and products you have looked at, used to show you recently viewed items
- Where you dragged the chat button, and that you have seen the cookie notice
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run any analytics or tracking service on this site.
Promotional emails
Accounts created from 24 October 2026 start with “Email me new products and news from Mwakete” switched on - the create-account form says so. Accounts created before then get these emails only if they ticked that box on their account page. We send at most two a week, and every one has a link to stop them. Untick the box on your account page or use that link at any time.
To choose what is worth showing you, we use what we already hold for running the shop: the stores and kinds of things you have ordered, booked, reviewed or left in a cart. We do not track which pages you look at for this - the products and stores you view stay on your phone (see above). We keep a record of which of these emails we sent you, and whether you opened a link in one, so we never send the same one twice.
Emails about your orders, bookings and signing in are not promotional and arrive whatever you choose.
Who can see your information
- A seller sees only their own business. When you order from a store, that seller sees your name, phone number, email if you gave one, your island and village, what you ordered and any note. They cannot see orders you placed with any other store, and they cannot see your account details beyond what that order contains.
- A Mwakete driver sees your name, phone number, village and what you ordered only for a delivery they have accepted (and, where Mwakete pays drivers, only after the delivery fee has been confirmed). The seller and you see the driver’s name, vehicle and phone number for that delivery.
- Other shoppers see only your reviews, with the name on your account.
- MainKT Enterprise can see the records needed to run the marketplace and to help when something goes wrong.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Services we rely on
Running the site means some of your information passes through other companies:
- Google — the marketplace's records are held in Google Sheets and the site's backend runs on Google Apps Script. Google Sign-In is used only if you choose it.
- Meta (Facebook) — Facebook Login, used only if you choose it. Meta's sign-in script loads only when you tap "Continue with Facebook".
- Cloudinary and Google Drive — store product and shop photos.
- Resend — sends the emails, such as your sign-in code and order confirmations.
- GitHub Pages — serves the website itself.
If you tap a seller's WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger button, you leave Mwakete and continue in that app, under that company's own privacy policy. We have no view of what you send there.
How long we keep it
Account and order records are kept while your account is open and for as long as we need them for the marketplace's records. Sign-in codes expire within minutes. Staying signed in lasts 60 days on your device.
Shared phones
If you sign in on a phone other people use, use Log out when you are finished. Anyone using that phone while you are signed in can see your order history, which includes your phone number and delivery address.
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
You can change your name and phone number yourself on your account page. To see everything we hold about you, correct it, or have your account and its records deleted, email admin@mwakete.com from the address on your account and say what you would like done. Some order records may be kept after an account is deleted where a seller still needs them for a transaction that already happened.
Children
Mwakete is meant for adults. It is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
