Terms of Service
Last updated: 11 September 2026
Mwakete is run by MainKT Enterprises. By using this site — as a shopper or as a seller — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
The most important thing to understand
Mwakete does not sell anything, and never handles your money. We are a place where sellers list what they have and shoppers can find them and talk to them. When you buy something, the agreement is between you and that seller. You pay the seller directly, in whatever way the two of you arrange. Mwakete never takes payment, never holds money, and therefore cannot issue refunds.
Who can use Mwakete
You must be 18 or older, or using it with the agreement of a parent or guardian. Give real contact details — a seller cannot deliver to a wrong number.
Buying
- Placing an order sends your details to that seller. It is a request to buy, not a completed sale.
- Prices, stock and delivery costs are set by the seller. If something is listed wrongly, the seller may correct it or decline the order.
- You can change an order only while it is still Pending Payment. Once a seller marks it beyond that, ask them directly.
- Where a seller has not set a delivery price, the site says delivery is to be negotiated. That means exactly what it says: agree it with the seller before you commit.
- A closed store cannot take orders. You can still message it.
Bookings and rentals
- A booking is a request until the seller confirms it. Pending is not booked.
- The site will not let you request dates that clash with a booking that seller has already confirmed. It does not stop two people requesting the same free dates — whoever the seller confirms gets them.
- You can change a booking while it is Pending. After that, speak to the seller.
Selling
If you open a store, you agree to:
- List only goods and services you are legally allowed to sell, and that you actually have.
- Describe them honestly — real photos, real prices, real condition.
- Honour the price shown when the order was placed, or tell the buyer promptly if you cannot.
- Keep your store's open/closed status honest, so shoppers are not ordering from a store that is not trading.
- Reply to buyers in reasonable time, and arrange delivery and payment as you advertised.
- Handle buyers' contact details only for their orders — not for marketing, and never passed to anyone else.
What may not be listed or posted
- Anything illegal in Kiribati, and anything you do not have the right to sell
- Weapons, drugs, medicines, live animals sold in breach of any rule, stolen goods, or counterfeits
- Other people's photos or text used without permission
- Abusive, harassing, threatening or deceptive messages, listings or reviews
- Anything designed to attack, overload or break the site
Reviews
Reviews must reflect a real experience. They are public and show the name on your account. Do not review your own store, pay for reviews, or post abuse. We may remove a review that breaks these terms.
Featured and sponsored placement
Where a store or product is shown as featured, that placement is chosen by Mwakete and cannot be bought or set by a seller. Ordinary ranking is worked out by the site itself. If paid promotion is ever introduced, it will be clearly labelled as such.
Fees
Mwakete currently charges nothing — no listing fee, no commission, no charge to shoppers. If that ever changes, sellers will be told before any fee applies, and no fee will be taken from a sale already made.
Your account
- Keep your sign-in to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- On a shared phone, tick “This is a shared device” when signing in, and log out when you finish.
- Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into your account.
Suspending or removing a store or account
We may hide or remove a listing, close a store, or suspend an account that breaks these terms, or where we have good reason to think a shopper is being harmed. Where it is reasonable to do so we will say why first. A seller may close their own store at any time; a shopper may ask for their account to be deleted (see the Privacy Policy).
Disputes between buyers and sellers
Because the sale is between the two of you, a problem with an order is between the two of you — goods not delivered, not as described, payment disagreements, refunds. Talk to each other first; the chat on the site keeps a record. You can report a seller or a buyer to us and we will look into it and may act on the account, but we are not a referee, we cannot recover your money, and we cannot force either side to do anything.
The site itself
Mwakete is provided as it is, free of charge, and we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop features. We try to keep the marketplace's records safe, but you should not treat this site as your only copy of anything important to you.
Our responsibility
We are responsible for running the site honestly and for the things the law does not let us exclude. We are not responsible for the goods and services sellers offer, for what sellers or shoppers say or do, or for losses arising from a deal made through the site — including money paid to a seller, goods that never arrived, or goods that were not as described. Nothing here is intended to remove a right you have under Kiribati law.
Content you post
What you write and the photos you upload stay yours. By posting them you allow Mwakete to show them on the site so the marketplace can work — your listing on the store page, your review on the product page. You confirm you have the right to post them.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Carrying on using the site after that means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Kiribati.
